NOISEMAKER

Photocollage of the installation (2005)

This installation consists of a bed of gravel in the middle of the gallery space. Laid into the bed of gravel is special colored gravel in the shape of letters that spell out popular call-and-response lines from club music. Mounted above the gravel bed, a digital camera on a timer program periodically photographs the gravel bed and sends the images to a printer. As patrons of the gallery cross the gravel bed, the colored gravel is scattered and mixed with the non-colored gravel, producing an even, random pattern that resembles visual white noise.
